Richard Martin directed some of the Highlander: The Series‘ key episodes and we’re delighted that he’s making his HLWW convention debut with us for The Gathering…
In his own words, Richard Martin is a ‘bon-vivant scoundrel of a director who came to Highlander knowing nothing of the genre and found an amazing array of talent and vision that was very supportive as he stumbled through, attempting to reinvent-the-wheel of a hit television series!’ Along the way, bolstered by a unique assemblage of writers, producers, and a truly wondrous cast, he found it within himself to help create nine episodes of the series, including favorites like Duende, Valkyrie, The Stone of Scone, and more.
To this day the experience remains a milestone of his television career which also includes great shows like DaVinci’s Inquest, The Chris Issak Show and Hollywood Off-Ramp. He has also directed small but (in his estimation) interesting feature films.
In 2013 he produced, directed and edited a documentary chronicling the avant-garde cinema of Vancouver Canada in the 1970s which is in the collection of numerous universities, colleges and film schools. Lately he has turned to his own personal film-art projects and has produced a number of short works that have screened as Official Selections in prestigious venues such as the Berlin International Film Festival, Oberhausen, Toronto International, AVIFF Art Film Festival Cannes and dozens more.
