We are delighted that Elizabeth Gracen has agreed to join us for The Gathering…
Elizabeth Gracen arrived in New York City from a small town in Arkansas a year after traveling the world as Miss America 1982. She used her scholarship prize money to study acting at HB Studios and photography at the New School. She later moved to Los Angeles where she has worked as an actress for over twenty years.
A veteran of many television and film productions, Elizabeth will need no introduction to long-term Highlander fans. The ex-Miss America debuted as the cat-burglar Immortal Amanda in the first season episode The Lady and the Tiger (opposite Jason Isaacs) and quickly became one of the series’ most beloved characters. Amanda, though well-meaning, got Duncan MacLeod into the most entertaining scrapes and when she wasn’t stealing expensive, sparkly baubles, she was capturing hearts.
The character also appeared in the spin-off series Highlander: The Raven, with Elizabeth in the title role
Behind the camera, Elizabeth’s first venture into film-making was the 2014 documentary, The Damn Deal about three young, female impersonators from Arkansas who compete in the Miss Gay America Beauty Pageant system. The film played on the international film festival circuit and received an Award of Merit from the 2014 Accolade Global Film Competition.
In 2012, she formed Flapper Films – a company dedicated to producing inspirational content that encourages multi-generational women to grow and live authentic lives. The company met with great success on the international film festival circuit with its premiere 2012 film short, The perfection of Anna and continues to develop projects in collaboration with the Lineage Dance Company – a non-profit dance company dedicated to raising funds and bringing awareness to a variety charities as well as promoting healing through the arts.
In April of 2016,Elizabeth published her debut, young adult fantasy novel, Shalilly, under the banner of Flapper Press (http://www.flapperpress.com) a curated, small publishing company and Ecommerce site for books, poetry, blogs, art, and unique merchandise. Formed with her partner, Kate Canada Obregon, PhD – a director of research, brand strategist and social scientist – the company features original content from influencers, thought leaders and artists and will explore the realms of art, ideas, film, television and themes in popular culture.
As a veteran of HLWW events, Elizabeth is looking forward to seeing old faces and meeting new fans at The Gathering. She will also be conducting one of her very popular Fan Kata workshops…
