HIGHLANDER: THE SEARCH FOR VENGEANCE
Though all the Highlander movies to date had been live-action, The Search for Vengeance was an exception – a movie expanding the mythology of Highlander into the future and imbuing it with a distinct eastern anime style.
Released in in 2007, the series’ creative consultant David Abramowitz and legendary anime director oversaw the story which told the story of Colin MacLeod who was born in the 2nd Century. Now, with the wise-cracking ghost Amergan, he crosses a desolate future landscape searching for an Immortal despot named Marcus Octavius. Centuries before, on the Celtic Plains, Marcus killed Colin’s lover Moya. Now Colin has the choice to lead people to freedom or to be consumed by hate and kill Marcus.
At first glance it might seem to have a lot in common with The Animated Series, but following eastern sensibilities this was definitely a production aimed at an older audience rather than family-fare.
The film was an international DVD release and is still available through outlets such as Amazon.
