Story: Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) is born in 1518 in Glenfinnan, on the shores of Loch Shiel in the Highlands of Scotland and grows up embracing combat for his clan. But entering onto the battlefield with the Clan Fraser, he is sought out by the Kurgan (Clancy Brown), a mighty warrior of vast strength, cast in furs and a helmet made of an ancient skull.
Before the warrior can deliver a final death blow against Connor, they are driven apart, but it is clear Connor has been mortally wounded. However, the next day, Connor rises from his death-bed, his wounds miraculously healed. His clans-folk, fearing he is now possessed by dark magic, banish him forever.
Finally finding love with the mortal Heather (Beatie Edney), she accepts Connor for all he is, but neither are aware of why he has apparently stopped growing older. When nobleman Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery) appears, he tells Connor of a timeless fight between good and evil, of Immortal warriors fighting down through the ages, gaining power and life-force when they kill another of their race – and only being able to do so by decapitating their enemy.
Ramirez begins to train MacLeod, but can only teach him so much before his own date with destiny and the Kurgan..
It will be many centuries later before Connor is ready to face the Kurgan again.
In 1980s’ New York, the time of the ‘Gathering’ is at hand as surviving Immortals draw close and MacLeod must fight for his life, his love and the whole of humanity, less the Kurgan be the winner of the ‘Prize’ plunging the world into a new time of darkness.
Because in the end, there can be only one…
