Story: It was said that the ‘Prize’ would bring with it the ability to guide mankind into a brave new era or plunge it into darkness, depending on who won ‘The Game’.
The now mortal Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) wants to use it to best effect and with the news coming in 1994 that Earth’s ozone layer is starting to fail, he brings his new insight to a team of scientists. They design and construct a radical new ‘Environmental Shield’ that will protect the Earth until a better solution is found. However, the years pass. MacLeod gets steadily older and the shield remains in place, ironically creating a red-hued darkness where people have forgotten what a blue-sky was ever like at all.
Louise Marcus (Virginia Madsen), a former Shield employee has been accused of being an environmental terrorist for her efforts to bring down the device and prove the ozone layer has been repaired, but those making money and power from the shield have no intention of letting her prove that.
As the aged Connor watches a production of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, he recalls the hidden truth about his previous existence… that he and Ramirez were actually refugees from a distant time and place, the planet Zeist – scattered through Earth’s history to protect the legend of their power.
But Zeist has not forgotten them and General Katana (Michael Ironside) and his flying henchmen are sent to the sprawling metropolis to find and kill MacLeod once and for all, making sure he can never return to threaten them again.
They are not aware that their very actions will restore Connor’s immortality, restore Ramirez (Sean Connery) to the stage and provide Louise Marcus with the best opportunity to prove her cause…
And maybe, together, save the planet itself…
